6th Grade Social Studies
Students focus on four domains as they study Europe, Latin America, Canada, and Australia. These domains are: geography, government, economics, and history. The Geography domain includes topics like maps, ethnic and religious groups, and environmental issues. The Government domain includes different political systems in the region, the role of citizens in terms of voting, and the role of citizens in terms of personal freedoms. The Economics domain includes different economic systems found in the region and how they operate, standard of living, and factors contributing to economic growth. Finally, the History domain includes topics from early colonization and exploration to present-day issues. Much of the history in sixth grade Social Studies focuses on conflicts faced by the regions of study.
In addition, sixth grade students have a Junior Achievement unit focused on personal finance. This unit culminates with a field trip to JA Biztown, located on the campus of Alliance Academy for Innovation.
